Catching up with Salisbury graduate Gavin Carey What is your full name? Gavin Carey When did you graduate from Salisbury? 2015 Tell us about your life since high school. After high school, I went to the University of Delaware. I graduated in the spring of 2019 and moved back home to begin working as a financial advisor with The Rockland Group -- Wealth Management and Equitable Advisors. As a financial advisor, I work with individuals and businesses to help them reach their goals through risk management strategies, wealth accumulation strategies, and financial planning. I also took over the vice president position for the Lehigh Valley Scholastic Hockey League. I still play hockey in a local adult league, but I have stayed away from swimming (my shoulders are thanking me for that). I also enjoy golfing and staying active in my free time. What are you most proud of personally and/or professionally? Personally, I am most proud of graduating in four years even though I switched my major going into my senior year. I realized I no longer wanted to enter healthcare towards the end of my junior year, and completely changed my plans after an internship over the summer leading into my senior year. Professionally, I am most proud of the impact my work has had in my clients lives as they continue to reach their financial goals and plan for their future. With how difficult this last year has been for everyone, it allowed me to stay positive and hopeful for the future. How has the pandemic impacted you and what have you learned from it? Personally, it helped me become more adaptable to my environment. I took it as an opportunity to really focus on personal development. I focused on eating healthy, beginning to read more, staying active through home workouts and going on walks, and finding ways to reconnect with friends in other states. Professionally, I am extremely thankful I was in a position to continue working with my clients virtually. I was already working with some clients remotely from other states, so I was able to transition a lot of my work from in person to virtually pretty easily. What was your favorite high school memory? My favorite high school memory is probably a tie between being at states for swimming during senior year or going to the football games senior year. How is your family doing? My family is doing well. After graduating from Colorado College, Ian began working as a wildfire firefighter. He is currently on a Hot Shot crew in New Mexico. Aidan is playing junior hockey in New Jersey and going through the college recruitment process. If you could meet anyone (alive or dead), who would you choose and why? I would love to meet Kimmo Timonen, a former NHL player for the Flyers. He was my favorite hockey player growing up. I would love to hear stories from all the different stages of his career and inspirations for his career. Who is your role model and why? My role models are my mom and dad. Growing up, my parents always worked their hardest to allow my brothers and I to do the activities we wanted. I have grown into the person I am today through their guidance and support, and hope one day to do the same for my future family. #yoursalisbury

A little Q&A with Salisbury Senior Andrew Sabol What is your full name? Andrew Sabol What are your hobbies? My hobbies are running, programming, hiking, biking, 3D printing and computer aided design. How would your friends describe you? My friends would describe me as hardworking and creative. What is your favorite subject? My favorite subject would probably have to be economics with Mrs. Kennedy because it allowed me to get a better understanding of how our money is actually used and what possibly could change depending on our leading officials. Who is your favorite teacher? I can’t really choose but it has to be between Mr. Frick and Ms. DosSantos. Mr. Frick because he got me more interested in history after having him for AC I and also because he has been one of my soccer coaches since 7th grade. Ms. DosSantos because she helped me with learning more Spanish and also she gave me a class that allowed me to open up and show my creative side. What is your favorite movie? My favorite movie would have to be the Star Wars saga because it got me into developing my creative side and also my imagination when I was younger which has since fueled my ideas for future ways for us to travel and some new technologies that might have an impact on the world. Are you involved in any community service projects? Before the pandemic I was an active member of G.I.V.E. and I was also an altar server at my church. Who is your role model and why? My role models aren’t just my parents. Yes most people would say their parents are their role models because they have built them to be what they are today. However, if I would look outside of my home and look at things like my hobbies and what I want to do. My role model would have to be Albert Einstein because he challenged many people as he came up with the idea for relativity and also his many breakthroughs in his field. What’s next after graduation? I will be attending Wilkes University and plan to study mechanical engineering and computer science. #yoursalisbury

A little Q&A with Salisbury Senior Emily Suter What is your full name? Emily Suter What are your hobbies? I love to figure skate. I’ve been taking classes for over two years now. I also love to draw, and I occasionally play the piano If you have pets, list what kind and names. I have a few fish, and a Chihuahua-pug mix (Chug) named Lily. How would your friends describe you? They would describe me as caring and passionate and determined. What is your favorite subject? History! I love listening to stories and piecing them together. And history is just one big story to me Who is your favorite teacher? Mr Barna. He’s the person who helped me realize I love history in the first place. I always say that if I could retake his Honors AC II class, I would do it in a heartbeat. What is your favorite movie? Forrest Gump. I first watched it when I was really young, and I still love it to this day. Are you involved in any community service projects? I’m a member of my local youth group who helps out the local community a lot. We host a lot of events, and the money either goes to the community or helping those in third world countries. We recently did something called the 30-Hour Famine, where we raise money by fasting for 30 hours. We raised over $2,000. All the money goes to an organization called World Vision, and directly helps kids suffering from hunger in third world countries. Who is your role model and why? My role models are my father and my mother. They’ve helped me through everything, the good and the bad, and through example, taught me how to care for others around me What’s next after graduation? I plan on attending Gettysburg College as a history major! I don’t know what career path I’ll go down, but as long as I can communicate my passion for history and make a change then I’ll be happy. #yoursalisbury
