Catching up with Salisbury graduate Shaun Holben
What is your full name?
Shaun Holben
When did you graduate from Salisbury?
2014
What have you been doing since you left Salisbury?
After Salisbury, I went to Temple University and graduated in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and a Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management. At Temple, I tried to be as involved as possible which led me to cofound the Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Club with my brother Collin and some of our friends. I also studied abroad/worked in Rome, held a variety of internships, and participated in the Design Discovery Program at Harvard University.
I am currently a student at UPenn’s Weitzman School of Design and will be graduating in the spring of 2021 with a Master of Architecture degree and a certificate in Real Estate Design and Development in conjunction with The Wharton School.
What are your summer plans?
I planned on working in NYC this summer as a project management intern for a real estate developer but after that fell through due to COVID-19, I had to figure something else out. I am now launching a startup with a few other students from UPenn tentatively named FabPool, where we intend on augmenting the furniture industry through Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) modeling.
What have you learned through this pandemic?
I learned that there is a need to constantly teach yourself new skills.
What was your favorite high school memory?
There isn’t any one memory in particular, but playing soccer or learning from Mr. Wetherhold are certainly lasting impressions.
What is your favorite movie or TV show and why?
My favorite TV show is “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” because I used to enjoy watching it with my friends.
How is your family doing? Fill me in on Collin and Erica.
Collin just graduated from Temple University with a Bachelor of Science in Community Development and a Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management. After graduating, he’s continuing to run his own quantitative investment fund. Erica just finished her first year at Moravian College and is majoring in Graphic Design.
If you could meet anyone (alive or dead), who would you choose and why?
I would choose to meet the late philosopher Alan Watts. I really enjoy reading his books and his writings on different topics and find him to be very insightful.
Who is your role model and why?
I’ve never really had one person as a role model and I don’t think it's wise to completely idolize one person because everyone is flawed in some way.

Today's leadership quote of the day is:
“You get in life what you have the courage to ask for.” – Oprah Winfrey

Duff Orlemann, Mrs. Orlemann's brother-in-law, came to her Zoom class to talk with the students about his career as a commercial artist. Duff graduated from the Art Institute of Philadelphia and has worked at Hallmark Cards, Gibson Greetings, and taught at the Art Institute of Ohio-Cincinnati. He illustrated a phonics reference page to show how fun and silly art can help you remember new information. Duff did a few caricatures for students who decided to stick around after class.

Happy Birthday Aubrey R. We hope you have a wonderful day! From your friends at HST!
