Catching up with Salisbury graduate Aubrey Evans What is your full name? Aubrey Butterfield When did you graduate from Salisbury? 2011 Tell us about your life since high school. Since high school I graduated from Cedar Crest College with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and Business Administration with a concentration in Management, a minor in Economics, and a certificate in Leadership. I married my high school sweetheart, Jay Butterfield, and we have 2 rescue dogs named Waffles and Loki. After college graduation I worked as an auditor with Baker Tilly, the firm I interned with during Junior year of college. I gained valuable experience with Baker Tilly for two and a half years which was vital in my interview for my current job. I am currently a project accountant with Air Products and love my job and my team. What are you most proud of personally and/or professionally? Personally I am most proud of my family and my own volunteer experiences. I have an amazing husband, two perfect in their own way rescue dogs, a very supportive mom and step-father, a great brother and sister-in-law, and the best in-laws I could ever ask for. I have been lucky enough to volunteer for the Lehigh Valley Zoo in the last few years and have learned so much and taught others so much about conservation and the amazing animals at the Zoo like the Masai Giraffes Murphy and Tatu! I also volunteer with the Lehigh County Humane Society and have helped fearful dogs come out of their shells and find their perfect forever homes. Also, because of volunteering with the shelter I met Loki at just five weeks old and knew then that I wanted to bring him home. A little less than three months later he came home and rounded out our family perfectly until we hopefully have children in the next year or two! Professionally I am most proud of working with my manager on projects these past three years in this position that have helped Air Products on a Global scale. We have implemented process improvements to help our Global Project Accounting team and created reporting applications for the company as a whole all the way up to Senior Management. I love my job and my coworkers and am very happy I made the move to Air Products by putting myself and my family first in that decision. How has the pandemic impacted you and what have you learned from it? Since quarantine began in March 2020, I have been working from home. We first expected this to last a few weeks, maybe a month, but that obviously was a mistake! I struggled with working from home in the beginning but gradually adjusted after about six months. Thankfully I have our dogs at home with me otherwise I am not sure how well I would have adjusted. We obviously were not able to host the summer picnics for our family which was hard but we were thankfully able to host Thanksgiving for the family members that wanted to come. We also were able to attend a wedding in late July which was a great way to break up the days on end at home! We have also been able to get to know our twin niece and nephew which has been a light during the pandemic. I also have been able to work with our dogs and their trainer on their obedience this past year, which has been fun and rewarding! Covid has taught us to appreciate our date days and time with friends and family as much as possible because tomorrow is not a guarantee. What was your favorite high school memory? My favorite high school memory is marching band! I have made life long friends in marching band and have even stayed on to first assist the color guard and then end up becoming the color guard instructor through this season. This year was by far the most challenging but it was very rewarding seeing what we were able to accomplish! How is your family doing? Jay and I are doing well and thankfully have not been personally affected by Covid and the same goes for our families. We have our two amazing dogs that keep us on our toes and more than entertained. We hope to be adding to our family in the next year or two and cannot wait for that experience! My younger brother married his high school sweetheart as well since graduation. They are doing well and have their own furbabies, two cats, that we all love! My mom is doing well in a surgical center in Florida where she is part of the Management team and has helped get that facility running since before they even opened! She and my step-father who works in an elementary school in Florida have thankfully stayed healthy! If you could meet anyone (alive or dead), who would you choose and why? This was harder to answer than I thought! I would choose J.K. Rowling so I could talk to her more about Harry Potter. She created such a realistic and vibrant world that so many people in the world love. I am a huge Harry Potter fan and would love the opportunity to talk about that world she created and just chat! Who is your role model and why? I would say my role models are my parents. My dad did everything he could to keep my brother and I happy and fulfilled while he was alive even if he had to sacrifice personally. He turned down better job opportunities because it would take him away from us more and he valued family more than anything. My mom is an amazing woman and so supportive which I am thankful for as I know that is not the case for so many. Even though she lives in Florida while we still live in Salisbury, she is as connected as she can be and I value that so greatly. My step-father is an amazing man and I feel so lucky to have him in my life. He knows he cannot replace my dad but he is an amazing father figure and loves us as his own which I am thankful for as that is not the case for many others as well. If I love and support my own future children even half as much as my parents love and support me they will be so lucky. #yoursalisbury
