Educational Surrogate Parents Needed
There is an urgent need for volunteers in Carbon and Lehigh Counties for the IU Surrogate Parent Program. Volunteers must be willing to travel to schools in either county. Surrogates participate in educational planning for special needs students who have been orphaned or abandoned by their parents. Retired educators, parents, or siblings of special needs students and college students majoring in special education, are a great resource for this advocacy role.
Training, information, support, and communication are provided by the IU coordinator. This volunteer position requires only 1 or 2 hours per month. If you can offer some of your time, please contact Surrogate Parent Program Coordinator:
Steven Hawkes via phone at 1-800-223-4821 x1660 or by email.
