Coronavirus Information - February 27, 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I am writing in reference to the coronavirus which has received widespread media attention in recent days. Salisbury Township School District does not have any confirmed cases of coronavirus. However, recent statements from the United States Center for Disease Control (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO) have asked schools to prepare for the spread of the virus.

If a case or cases were to occur in the district, we would notify staff and parents/guardians and follow guidance/directives from the PA Department of Health and the CDC.

We would like to remind all staff and students to follow CDC recommendations to reduce the risk for any respiratory virus.

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  • Stay home when sick.

  • Cough or sneeze into an elbow or use a tissue and place immediately in the trash.

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

Currently, the threat of someone in the United States becoming sick with the coronavirus is relatively low, but this may change in the coming weeks. Those presently at the highest risk are people who have traveled to China, and those caring for people who already have the virus (Coronavirus Fact Sheet). If you find that you or a family member gets sick, please note that the CDC has published information on What to Do if You Are Sick With Coronavirus.

Concerns about health situations such as this virus can cause anxiety for children and families. As parents and educators, we want to protect our children and ensure their safety. We will continue to update staff and families as information becomes available.

Thank you for working together with us to ensure accurate information on the virus is disseminated and preventative steps are taken. Together we will navigate this concern. The health and safety of our students and staff is of the utmost importance to all of us in Salisbury.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your building Principal and/or Certified School Nurse.
