Salisbury hires two varsity winter coaches

Familiar faces will be leading two of the Salisbury’s winter athletic programs beginning in 2019-20.

Eric Snyder was named the new varsity wrestling coach and Mackenzie Sikora was selected as  the new varsity swimming coach.

This will be the second Salisbury coaching stint for Snyder, who was the head coach for seven years beginning in 2009-10 and ending in 2015-16. Juan Garcia, who coached the program the last three years, resigned over the summer.

Under Snyder, SHS 2013 graduate Anthony Dee amassed 100 career wins. Snyder also coached SHS 2016 graduate Alex Nicholas, who won districts and regionals his senior year and placed 4th in the state in the Class 2A heavyweight class.

“Salisbury is a place I always enjoyed coaching and have maintained many relationships since leaving a few years ago,” Snyder said. “When the opportunity to come back came up, I jumped at it. We have a core group of talented wrestlers returning and I believe we have established an outstanding coaching staff that will not only improve them on the mat but as young men.  We are working on improving numbers at all levels and are confident Salisbury wrestling will be something the school and community will be proud to be a part of.”

Mackenzie Sikora has spent the last two winters as Salisbury’s assistant varsity swimming coach. The Salisbury High School graduate takes over for Pat O’Connor, who stepped down after four seasons to become the William Allen head coach.

“I am excited for the opportunity,” Sikora said. “I’ve learned a great deal from coach Pat, who is a mentor. I love the sport and I enjoy teaching it. It’s very rewarding to watch swimmers improve on times and try new events. Everyone supports, encourages and bonds together. We are always looking for swimmers and it doesn’t matter what kind of experience a student has. We will work with anyone; swimming is about improving and having fun along the way.”

Additionally, Sikora will lead the school’s middle school spring swimming program after assisting the last two seasons. She also will continue to help with the school’s cheerleading squads.
