To facilitate development of students and staff as effective users of information and to foster a life-long habit of reading and learning, we provide opportunities to develop the dispositions, skills and literacies needed. As a Leader in Me School, students lead by using the 4 C's: thinking critically, creating, collaborating, and communicating.
Library instruction for kindergarten through fifth graders will develop an appreciation of a variety of texts. Students will become familiar with quality literature, such as Newbery and Caldecott winners. Their developing appreciation will be exhibited by studying nominees for the Pennsylvania Young Readers Choice Award and voting for their personal preferences.
By the end of fifth grade, students should be able to identify, locate, and evaluate Library Media Center resources for a variety of identified needs. Students will not only be encouraged to use Destiny to access their current check outs but to share information about their favorite titles. Ample opportunities will provide the building blocks for each individual to become a self-directed learner who can use print and online resources.
