DID YOU KNOW the Notice of Public Hearing pertaining to grade level reconfiguration and closing of Western Salisbury Elementary School was recently shared with the public? You can find the notice at the end of this post.

DID YOU KNOW the March 4 Public Meeting will have an agenda? At 7:00 PM, the Board will hold its monthly Operations Committee meeting. During this meeting the Board will receive an update on the 2020-21 budget process and review a Tax Appeal Policy for adoption at the March 18 regular Board Meeting.

After the Operations Committee meeting is complete, the Board will begin the Public Hearing. The Administration will make a presentation followed by a public comment period. Comments may be shared verbally and may also be submitted in writing. Rules for public comment will be followed, limiting individual speakers to 2-3 minutes, depending on the number of speakers. Yielding time to other speakers will not be permitted. Please plan accordingly. At the conclusion of the public comment section, the Board President will review comments about next steps in the process.

DID YOU KNOW there will be a 90 day period for the Board to consider the information presented and public comment, prior to any action on the proposal to move forward with grade reconfiguration? The Board may choose to request additional or clarifying information during the 90 day period.

The Board has made no decision on the future of grade reconfiguration. Since the Board directed the Administration to explore the logistical and financial viability of such a plan, the Administration has been working to gather data to share with the Board and public during the March 4 meeting.

DID YOU KNOW that in Pennsylvania, public school Board meetings are for the public, not with the public. During the Public Hearing there should be no expectation that the Board will engage with the public. If you wish to engage in dialog with individual Board members, you may do so outside the meeting. All decision making and deliberation among the Board as a whole must be done during a public meeting.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that the Board of School Directors of the Salisbury Township School District will hold a public hearing on March 4, 2020 at 7:00 PM prevailing time, at the Salisbury Middle School, 3301 Devonshire Road, Allentown, PA 18103 as required by the Article VII, 24 PS 7-780 relative to the proposed grade level reconfiguration and closing of Western Salisbury Elementary located at, 3201 Devonshire Rd, Allentown, PA 18103.

A brief presentation will be made at the hearing relative to the proposal.

Persons attending the hearing will be permitted agenda time to make statements, either written or oral. Speakers will be asked to sign-in at the meeting to make a statement. Speakers are asked to be considerate and keep comments concise and to the point in order to allow all persons an opportunity to speak. It is the intention of the School Board to make a full and complete record of the hearing stenographically by a verbatim reporter. Evidence and materials presented will be considered by the Board of School Directors in its determination as to whether to proceed with the reconfiguration.

This notice is being given, and the hearing held pursuant to a meeting held February 5, 2020.

Any and all interested persons may appear and attend the public hearing and may be heard at such hearing. Such persons may also submit letters or written testimony to the Secretary of the Board of School Directors, 1140 Salisbury Road, Allentown, PA 18103 containing their views of and reactions to the proposal until March 11, 2020.
