DID YOU KNOW? -- Dual Enrollment

DID YOU KNOW that Salisbury High School students have the opportunity to earn college credit for courses taken at SHS by teachers who are also accredited adjunct professors for Seton Hall University, Moravian College, and—beginning with the 2020-2021 school year—Lehigh Carbon Community College? This program is called dual enrollment, concurrent enrollment, or early college (varies by college / university). Upon successful completion of the dual enrollment course(s), students will earn both credit toward graduation and college credit from the partner institution.

DID YOU KNOW that during the 2019-2020 school year, Salisbury High School students:

  • Took the following 13 different courses for dual enrollment credit:

    • AP Biology

    • AP Calculus AB

    •  AP English Language & Composition

    • Calculus

    • Classical Mythology

    • Honors Anatomy & Physiology

    • Honors Chemistry II

    • Honors Physics I

    •  Intro. to Statistics

    • Psychology

    • Public Speaking

    • Spanish IV

    • Spanish V

  • Took 55 individual classes for dual enrollment credit?

  • Saved $3348 per each 3-credit Seton Hall University course ($100 per dual enrollment credit vs. $1216 per non-dual enrollment credit)?

  • Saved $4260 per each 4-credit Moravian College course ($100 per dual enrollment credit vs. $1216 per non-dual enrollment credit)?

  • Will save $348 PER COURSE for each 3-credit LCCC course ($90 per dual enrollment credit vs. $146 per non-dual enrollment credit)?

  • Saved $197,820 in college tuition credits for the 2019-20 school year?

DID YOU KNOW that this program costs nothing for our district to administer as these courses were already being offered and taught by SHS faculty?

DID YOU KNOW that dual enrollment credits are widely accepted as transfer credits at colleges and universities across the United States and beyond? Students can ascertain whether their dual enrollment credits will transfer to prospective colleges / universities by checking the college / university website or by reaching out to the admissions office. School counselors can also help obtain this information.

Clarification: During the public comment section of the February 18 School Board Meeting, a citizen reported that the district spent in excess of $200,000 on Dual Enrollment for 2019-20. This information is not accurate.

The school district does not budget or expend any funds on dual enrollment. The tuition for dual enrollment is paid directly by the family to LCCC or the sponsoring institution of higher education.

The budgeted numbers for 2019-2020 that were referred to are for the required Operating Contribution and Capital Debt Outlay Sponsorship that all school districts in Lehigh and Carbon counties agree to contribute.  The link below contains the 2019-20 budget for LCCC, and on pages 35-36, you can find the contribution amounts for each district in Lehigh County.
