  • Head Lice

Head lice (Pediculosis) are not considered a health hazard or a sign of poor hygiene. They are not responsible for the spread of any disease. Lice do not jump or fly; they can only crawl and pets do not play a role in the spread of lice. Lice are spread by head to head contact or sharing of combs/hats/brushes. Anyone from any social or economic class can get lice. Screening for nits alone is not an accurate way of predicting which children are or will become infested and screening for live lice has not been proven to have a significant effect on the incidence of head lice in a school community. PARENTS SHOULD CHECK THEIR CHILDREN’S HEADS FOR LICE REGULARLY.
